HOTEL PIROSCAFO

An intimate family run hotel, completely renovated and facing the old port. In a central position, it’s ideal for a relaxing stay. Nears the shops, restaurants and bars and the “imbarcadero”, bus stops. It includes 32 rooms, with private bathrooms, sattelite TV, telephone, safe, airconditioning and some balconies with a view of the lake. The hotel also has an elevator and a garage in the nearby surroundings.

The property and the management of the Hotel Piroscafo by the Segattini family begins at the start of the last century, when the transport on the lake was made through sailboats that were entering inside the harbour and the travellers were use to find accommodation and food in a place called Locanda Stella. Since the 50's, following extensions and remaking occurred in the past, the activity today has not changed and it has kept the dimensions, characteristics and also the name Hotel Piroscafo. After the construction of the road that goes around the lake and the bridge named "alla veneziana" completed in 1937, also the harbour changed its aspect and function: the big boats, besides becoming an obsolete mean of transport, were not allowed to enter the port anymore leaving spaces to the small boats of the fishermen; first they were manual and then mechanic, and after centuries of commercial activities - since the Serenissima the port and the square of Desenzano, with its market were in fact an important commercial centre on the lake - it lost its original identity and became just a memory: a suggestive corner on the lake for tourist boats. The final renovation of the premise happened at the start of the 80's and the business took the present physiognomy, the one of a Hotel that with its view on the characteristic old harbour and at the same time its central location, it is particularly pleasurable for who desire to stay in the traditional centre of Desenzano, taking advantage of the comforts that only the centre can offer: vicinity to shops, restaurants and bars, the port and other services that a typical tourist little town is able to put a disposal of its guests. On the terrace located on the first floor - privileged view on the main square of the town, and at the disposal of the guests - it is possible to relax or sun bathing taking advantage of the bar service or also to take part to shows or concerts organised at night during the summer by the Public Administration. The Hotel is also equipped with a lift that serves nearly all rooms: only few of them in order to be reached require to go up one or two ramp of staircase.
